The Cleveland Guardians picked up right-hander Darren McCaughan from the Miami Marlins on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Columbus.
McCaughan made one appearance for the Marlins, eating 4 2/3 innings of a 20-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. He was shelled for eight runs on nine hits (including three home runs) and three walks, striking out two.
The Marlins designated the 28-year-old for assignment the next day.
Before joining Miami, McCaughan made five appearances (one start) for the Seattle Mariners across the 2021 and 2023 seasons. He has a career 9.16 ERA with 14 strikeouts, 10 walks and seven homers allowed in 18 2/3 innings.
