Jack Flaherty allowed just two hits in six scoreless innings as the host Detroit Tigers downed the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Tuesday.

Flaherty (3-6) walked one and struck out eight in the Tigers’ third straight victory. Chase Lee followed with two shutout innings, and Will Vest picked up his seventh save despite giving up a ninth-inning run.

Detroit’s Riley Greene had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs. Wenceel Perez, activated from the injured list after recovering from a back injury, homered in his first at-bat of the season.

Wilmer Flores drove in the lone run for the Giants. Logan Webb (5-5) gave up three runs while striking out 10 in six innings. He permitted seven hits and walked one.

San Francisco manager Bob Melvin was ejected in the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes.

The Giants had two baserunners in the first inning, but Flaherty escaped the jam by striking out Matt Chapman. In the bottom of the inning, Gleyber Torres hit a one-out single and scored on Greene’s two-out double to center.

Perez led off the second with a homer that cleared the right field wall. The Tigers had two more baserunners in the frame, but Webb struck out Torres to end the inning.

The Tigers made it 3-0 in the third. Colt Keith ripped a triple down the right field line leading off the inning. Greene then smacked a single over the drawn-in infield to bring home Keith.

San Francisco didn’t have a baserunner for 13 consecutive batters until Willy Adames’ two-out single in the seventh against Lee. Casey Schmitt then flied out.

Patrick Bailey led off the eighth against Lee with a single. The runner was quickly erased as Lee induced a double-play grounder from Tyler Fitzgerald. Lee then struck out Mike Yastrzemski to end the inning.

Heliot Ramos led off the ninth against Vest with a single. Flores, who just missed a homer in his first at-bat, then drilled a double into the left-center-field gap to bring home Ramos. Vest settled down and retired the next three batters, striking out Adames to end the contest.

The Tigers will look to sweep the three-game series Wednesday afternoon.
