Manny Machado had three hits and drove in four runs, Randy Vasquez pitched six scoreless innings, and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 on Tuesday in the second game of a four-game series in Phoenix.

Jackson Merrill had three hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Padres, who jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings off Eduardo Rodriguez (10-4). The gap grew to 8-0 in the seventh inning before the D-backs scored.

Vasquez (7-6) gave up two singles in six innings for his first victory since June 13, his second since May 15. He struck out one, walked one and used only 80 pitches.

Arizona’s Nolan Arenado and James McCann hit two-run homers off German Marquez in the seventh to close the deficit to 8-4 before Jake Cronenworth had a run-scoring single in the ninth.

McCann has a nine-game hitting streak since returning from the injured list on July 7 and has an RBI in eight straight games, tying Luis Gonzalez and Paul Goldschmidt for the team record. McCann has four homers and 15 RBIs during his streak.

Cronenworth had three hits and an RBI while Xander Bogaerts and Freddy Fermin each had two hits and an RBI for the Padres, who have won nine of 11.

Bogaerts was removed after walking with one out in the seventh. He fouled a 2-2 pitch off the top of his left foot and finished the plate appearance before being replaced by a pinch runner.

Rodriguez gave up season highs of 11 hits and seven runs (five earned). He struck out four and did not walk a batter in 5 2/3 innings as his three-game winning streak ended.

Geraldo Perdomo had two hits for the D-backs, who had won five of six.

The Padres jumped on Rodriguez early, scoring three in the first and three more in the second. Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled to open the game and scored on Machado’s one-out double. Merrill and Bogaerts produced two-out RBI singles for a 3-0 lead.

The Padres had four singles in the second, but second baseman Ketel Marte’s fielding error on a potential inning-ending double play with runners on first and second turned the frame around.

Machado followed with a two-run single, and Merrill’s two-out RBI single capped the rally, making it 6-0.
