Mariners erupt for five runs in 10th to beat Blue Jays

Blue Jays

Cal Raleigh led off a five-run 10th inning with a two-run home run and the visiting Seattle Mariners defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 Wednesday afternoon.

The Mariners avoided a sweep by winning the finale of the three-game series that opened Toronto’s home schedule.

Raleigh hit his second home run of the season on a drive to right center against Tim Mayza (0-1) that also scored placed runner Luke Raley.

After two walks, Mitch White replaced Mayza and allowed Ty France’s RBI double and Mitch Haniger’s two-run single.

Ryne Stanek pitched the bottom of the 10th and struck out two and walked one.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a solo homer for Toronto.

Toronto left-hander Yusei Kikuchi allowed one run, three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in six innings.

Seattle right-hander Logan Gilbert gave up one run, five hits and one walk while striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings.

Dylan Moore led off the Seattle third with a walk, stole second and scored on J.P. Crawford’s one-out single to right. The walk to Moore was Kikuchi’s second leadoff free pass in consecutive innings.

Gilbert worked efficiently. Toronto had a second-inning single by Cavan Biggio erased when Alejandro Kirk grounded into a double play.

Kikuchi pitched around a leadoff single in the sixth.

He was replaced in the top of the seventh by Nate Pearson, who pitched around a one-out walk.

Guerrero led off the home seventh with his third home run of the season, a blast to left center.

Yimi Garcia set down the Mariners in order in the eighth.

Gilbert allowed a two-out single to Daulton Varsho in the bottom of the eighth. He walked George Springer and was replaced by Andres Munoz (1-1) who retired Guerrero on a fly to shallow center.

Garcia struck out the side in the top of the ninth.

Justin Turner singled to left against Munoz with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Biggio was hit by a pitch. Pinch hitter Daniel Vogelbach walked with two out to load the bases. Ernie Clement blooped out to second to end the threat on a good play by Jorge Polanco.
