Marlins halt Phillies’ 13-game road winning streak

Jorge Soler homered in the first inning and lofted the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the fourth as the Miami Marlins broke the Philadelphia Phillies’ 13-game road winning streak with a 5-3 win on Saturday afternoon.

The road win streak matched a Phillies record set in 1976.

Phillies star designated hitter Bryce Harper left the game after getting hit by a pitch on his surgically repaired right elbow.

Harper was hit in the third inning by a 90-mph sinker from Braxton Garrett. Harper stayed in the game until he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the fifth.

Marlins All-Star second baseman Luis Arraez, who did not start to rest sore knees, had an RBI pinch-hit single in the seventh. He leads the majors with a .388 batting average.

Garrett (5-2) allowed six hits, no walks and three runs in five innings. He has gone 11 straight starts without taking a loss, and the Marlins are 10-1 with him on the mound during that span.

Phillies starter Ranger Suarez (2-4) took the loss, allowing eight hits, four walks and four runs (three earned) in 5 2/3 innings.

Four Marlins relievers — including Tanner Scott — pitched scoreless baseball. Scott struck out one and has fanned 64 batters, which is a Marlins record for a reliever prior to the All-Star break.

A.J. Puk pitched the ninth for his 15th save. He had blown saves in each of his past two appearances, allowing five runs in two innings.

Philadelphia opened the scoring on the game’s 10th pitch as Trea Turner homered to left. It was his 10th homer, marking the eighth straight year he has reached double figures.

Miami took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first as Soler cracked his solo homer, and rookie Dane Myers added a two-run single. It was Soler’s team-high 23rd homer of the year.

Philadelphia tied the score 3-3 in the second on Christian Pache’s RBI double off the top of the wall in right and Kyle Schwarber’s run-scoring groundout.
Miami took a 4-3 lead on an unearned run in the fourth. Myers singled and advanced on Suarez’s fielding error that allowed Garrett Hampson to reach. After a walk to Bryan De La Cruz loaded the bases
with one out, Soler hit his sacrifice fly to center.

The Marlins made it 5-3 in the seventh as Garrett Cooper singled, Yuli Gurriel walked, and Arraez smacked his RBI single.
