Mets DH Daniel Vogelbach gets ‘mental break’ amid slump

The New York Mets have been giving designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach a “mental break” amid his batting slump, essentially operating with a 25-man roster for a week.

Vogelbach, 30, hasn’t appeared in a game since last Wednesday, when he went 0-for-3 against Atlanta. Vogelbach is 1-for-13 in the month of June and 4-for-44 in his last 17 appearances overall. He’s batting .203 with two homers and 14 RBIs in 47 games this season.

“Buck (Showalter) just wanted to give me kind of just a mental break, not necessarily gonna use it that way, but like I said the other day, just trying to get my swing back to the ultimate goal of helping the New York Mets win,” Vogelbach said, per the New York Post.

Vogelbach hit .255 with six home runs and 25 RBIs in 55 games last season for the Mets, who acquired him from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. He’s a career .216 hitter.

SNY reported that Vogelbach’s roster spot is not in jeopardy for the time being.
