Mets INF Luis Guillorme (groin) out 4-6 weeks

New York Mets infielder Luis Guillorme is heading to the injured list with a groin strain and will miss four to six weeks.

The 27-year-old is in the midst of a renaissance season for the Mets, sporting a slash line of .283/.355/.357 with 11 doubles and 14 RBIs. He has played in a career-high 86 games.

“It is what it is,” Mets manager Buck Showalter said Monday. “He’s done a lot of things for us. We’ll try to hold the fort down. It’s part of baseball.”

Guillorme has played all over the infield this season — 54 games at second, 22 at third and 11 at shortstop. He’s committed just three errors all season, one at each position.

The Mets haven’t made an official roster move, but Showalter said the Mets need support throughout the infield with Eduardo Escobar trying to get over left side tightness. A switch-hitter, Escobar still isn’t ready to bat from the right side.

Guillorme is a career .271 hitter over five seasons, all with the Mets.

The Mets open a critical four-game series in Atlanta beginning Monday night.
