Francisco Alvarez and Francisco Lindor each drove in runs to open the 10th inning and the visiting New York Mets held off the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 on Monday while extending their winning streak to four games.
Lindor hit a home run on the second pitch of the game and right-hander Paul Blackburn went five scoreless innings in his season debut. Closer Edwin Diaz (3-0) had his first blown save before picking up the win, while Jose Butto recorded the final two outs for his first save.
New York has won 27 consecutive games when Lindor has hit a home run.
After losing in the National League Championship Series to the Dodgers last fall, New York has three victories in four games against Los Angeles, all since May 23.
Shohei Ohtani hit a home run for the Dodgers and had a game-tying sacrifice fly in the ninth against Diaz. Andy Pages had an RBI single in the 10th, but Los Angeles failed to score again with runners at first and second with one out.
Left-hander Tanner Scott (0-2) gave up two runs (one earned) in the ninth to see his ERA rise to 4.73 in his debut season with Los Angeles. Starter Dustin May gave up two runs on six hits in six innings, issuing two walks and striking out five.
Lindor’s first-inning home run gave him 14 on the season and four in the past four games.
The Mets made it 2-0 in the fifth on a ground-rule double from Brandon Nimmo.
Blackburn cruised in his first start since Aug. 23 of last season, giving up three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. He had been out with hand, spine and knee injuries.
The Dodgers broke through in the seventh on Ohtani’s 424-foot home run to right field off right-hander Max Kranick. It was Ohtani’s 23rd of the season to tie for the major league lead with the Seattle Mariners’ Cal Raleigh, and his sixth in eight games.
Anvarez’s RBI double to right opened the 10th for New York against Scott, then Lindor drove in the eventual game-winning run on a single to the left field corner.
