Josh Naylor went 3-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBIs, including a go-ahead, three-run blast in the 11th inning and a tying grand slam in the ninth, as the visiting Cleveland Guardians used a late eruption to defeat the Chicago White Sox 12-9 on Monday night.

Chicago pitching limited Cleveland to one run in the Guardians’ first seven times at-bat but was unable to maintain an 8-2, ninth-inning lead as the White Sox saw their winning streak stopped at six.

Cleveland stunned Chicago with a six-run, ninth-inning rally that tied the game at 8. Andres Gimenez started the charge with a solo home run. The Guardians then pulled to within 8-4, and with two outs, loaded the bases for Naylor, who belted the first pitch he saw from Liam Hendriks for a grand slam.

Gimenez lined a go-ahead double in the 10th inning as Cleveland took a 9-8 lead. Chicago promptly tied the game in the bottom half but was unable to produce the winning run after loading the bases with one out.

Gavin Sheets and Pollock each drilled three-run home runs and Michael Kopech pitched six strong innings for the White Sox, who fell to 0-4 against Cleveland this season.

Yankees 1, Rangers 0

Nestor Cortes came within five outs of a no-hitter before allowing a single to Eli White, and host New York pushed across a run in the eighth inning to beat Texas.

Anthony Rizzo hit an RBI double for the Yankees, who won for the 13th time in 15 games and joined the New York Mets as the second team in the majors with 20 wins.

Cortes lost his no-hit bid when White hit a 91 mph fastball into short center field on the left-hander’s 103rd pitch. Clay Holmes (4-0) relieved Cortes, who finished with 11 strikeouts, and needed four pitches to get Marcus Semien to bounce into a double play. Aroldis Chapman pitched a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.

Angels 11, Rays 3

Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout and Jared Walsh combined to hit four home runs and power Los Angeles to a victory over Tampa Bay in Anaheim, Calif. Ohtani homered twice, including a grand slam in the seventh inning that was his first in professional baseball, either Japan or the majors.

Walsh hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning that gave the Angels the lead for good. Trout (two-run homer) and Ohtani (solo homer) hit homers on back-to-back pitches in the sixth inning.

Angels starter Noah Syndergaard (3-1) gave up one run on seven hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out seven. The Rays got three hits from Wander Franco, but they finished 1-for-16 with runners in scoring position.

Cubs 6, Padres 0

Kyle Hendricks threw 8 2/3 innings to lead visiting Chicago to a shutout of San Diego that snapped a five-game losing streak.

Hendricks (2-3) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out seven strikeouts. Scott Effross got the final out for the Cubs after Hendricks threw 116 pitches.

Ian Happ had an RBI single and a two-run double, and Wilson Contreras went 3-for-4 and played a role in three of the Cubs’ first four runs. Padres starter MacKenzie Gore (2-1) gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings.

Diamondbacks 4, Marlins 3

Ketel Marte hit a tiebreaking homer in the sixth inning as Arizona opened a three-game series against Miami with a victory in Phoenix.

Daulton Varsho, Christian Walker and Marte each had two hits and an RBI for Arizona, which has won 10 of its last 13 games. The Diamondbacks have won each of their first four meetings against Miami this season by one run.

Garrett Cooper hit a solo homer and Jacob Stallings drove in two runs for the Marlins, who lost for the eighth time in their past nine games.

Giants 8, Rockies 5

Mauricio Dubon went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, Austin Slater and Darin Ruf had two hits and two runs each, and host San Francisco beat Colorado.

Carlos Rodon (4-1) struck out 12 in six strong innings for the Giants, who have won three in a row. Jose Iglesias and Connor Joe had three hits apiece for Colorado.

Austin Gomber (2-3) allowed five runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings of work for the Rockies, who rallied with three runs in the ninth but still absorbed their third defeat in four games.

Phillies 9, Mariners 0

Ranger Suarez pitched six effective innings and Philadelphia racked up a season-high 17 hits while defeating host Seattle in the opener of a three-game interleague series.

Jean Segura and Rhys Hoskins hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning for the Phillies, who earned their second win in seven games. Suarez (3-1) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out a season-high seven batters.

Rookie Julio Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a double, but that was the lone highlight for the Mariners, who lost for the 11th time in their past 13 games.

Reds 10, Brewers 5

Kyle Farmer snapped a 0-for-34 slump with a three-run homer and Brandon Drury also hit a three-run shot to power host Cincinnati past Milwaukee.

Farmer’s homer broke the longest hitless drought by a Reds player since 1954 and led the Reds to their first winning streak of the year at two straight. Every Reds starter had at least one hit and one run scored.

Rowdy Tellez drove in a pair of runs for the Brewers, who lost their third in a row.

Orioles 6, Royals 1

Tyler Wells allowed one run in a career-high six innings as host Baltimore benefited from one big scoring burst to beat Kansas City.

A six-run fifth inning supported the first victory for Wells (1-2) since June 18 last season. Royals starter Carlos Hernandez (0-2) took the loss, unable to get through fifth. He was charged with all six runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out two.

The Orioles’ big inning came with just four hits accompanied by a list of Kansas City miscues. Jorge Mateo and Trey Mancini (3-for-4) rapped run-scoring singles, and Ryan Mountcastle drove in two more with a single. Other runs scored on a throwing error and one of the two wild pitches in the inning.

Pirates 5, Dodgers 1

Jose Quintana threw six shutout innings to lead Pittsburgh past visiting Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game series. Quintana (1-1) allowed two hits, struck out five and walked four.

The Pirates earned just their fourth victory in the past 12 games, while the Dodgers saw their six-game winning streak end. Jack Suwinski hit his first major league homer, Michael Perez homered for the second straight game since his promotion from Triple-A Indianapolis, and Ke’Bryan Hayes had three hits of the 15 hits for the Pirates, who had lost 16 in a row against the Dodgers.

Edwin Rios homered to lead off the ninth and prevent Los Angeles from getting shut out for the first time this season.

Athletics 2, Tigers 0

Paul Blackburn allowed only four hits in 6 2/3 innings, Tony Kemp hit his first home run of the season, and visiting Oakland snapped a nine-game losing streak by blanking slumping Detroit.

Blackburn (4-0) walked none and struck out three. His season ERA dropped to 1.74 ERA with another stellar performance. Dany Jimenez struck out three in the ninth while recording his fifth save.

Detroit starter Michael Pineda gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four in 6 2/3 innings. The Tigers were shut out for the second consecutive game while losing their sixth straight.
