Foster Griffin pitched 7 1/3 strong innings and the Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Washington on Monday.

Luis Garcia Jr. and Curtis Mead homered, and Dylan Crews, James Wood and Keibert Ruiz had a double and a single each for Washington, which had lost three of four.

Griffin (8-2) gave up a run on four hits and struck out nine with a walk. He has gone five or more innings and allowed one earned run in each of his past four starts.

Clayton Beeter worked the ninth for his sixth save.

Brandon Marsh homered for the Phillies, who had won two straight and four of six.

Neither Kyle Schwarber (four homers in his past two games) nor Bryce Harper (homers in two straight) went deep for the Phillies.

Nasim Nunez of the Nationals singled twice to extend his hitting streak to eight games and has reached base in 14 straight.

Washington’s CJ Abrams had his home run streak ended at three games.

Phillies opener Tim Mayza (2-2) allowed one run in the first inning. Alan Rangel, recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, then allowed a run on five hits over five innings.

The start of the game was delayed one hour and 32 minutes by rain.

Wood led off the first with a double, went to third on a fly out and scored when Crews lined a single to left.

Garcia homered to right-center with one out in the second. Nunez reached on a bunt single, but Rangel retired the next two batters.

Derek Hill doubled leading off the Phillies’ fifth. He went to third on Bryson Stott’s groundout, but Rafael Marchan popped out and third baseman Mead made a nice stab on Trea Turner’s grounder to end the inning.

Marsh homered into the Nationals’ bullpen with one out in the seventh to pull the Phillies within 2-1.

Wood singled leading off the bottom of the seventh and Mead followed with his 12th homer of the season.
