The Washington Nationals placed right-hander Michael Soroka on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right biceps strain.
Making his debut with the Nationals on Monday at Toronto, Soroka (0-1, 7.20 ERA) allowed four runs on five hits in five-plus innings. He departed in the sixth inning with cramping in the biceps, finishing the 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays with three strikeouts and one walk.
Soroka, 27, signed a one-year, $9 million contract with Washington in December.
A National League All-Star and Rookie of the Year runner-up with Atlanta in 2019, Soroka is 17-19 with a 3.73 ERA in 70 career games (53 starts) with the Braves (2018-20, 2023), Chicago White Sox (2024) and Nationals.
Washington recalled right-hander Jackson Rutledge from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. The 2019 first-round pick is 1-1 with a 5.72 ERA in seven career appearances (five starts) for the Nationals from 2023-24.
