Jonah Heim tied the game with a single, Lawrence Butler produced the go-ahead run with a hit and Max Muncy delivered two insurance runs with a third consecutive single as the visiting Athletics plated four runs in the ninth inning to overtake the San Francisco Giants 9-6 on Thursday afternoon, avoiding a three-game sweep.

The A’s scored the game’s final seven runs over the last three innings after a bases-clearing triple by Jung Hoo Lee and a two-run homer by Victor Bericoto converted a one-run Giants deficit into a 6-2 lead in the sixth.

A two-run single by Shea Langeliers in the seventh and an RBI single by Jeff McNeil in the eighth got the A’s back within 6-5, setting the stage for the ninth-inning uprising.

Henry Bolte ignited the rally with an infield single off Giants right-hander Caleb Kilian (2-4). The sequence of run-scoring singles followed a two-out walk drawn by Tyler Soderstrom.

Geoff Hartlieb (1-0), who hadn’t factored into a major league decision since 2020 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, was credited with the win after tossing two scoreless relief innings. Mason Barnett earned his second save with a perfect ninth.

An RBI double by Alika Williams and RBI groundout by Nick Kurtz allowed the visitors to take a 2-1 in the fifth.

The Giants responded with an eruption against A’s starter Jeffrey Springs and two relievers in the sixth.

After allowing Willy Adames’ 14th homer of the season and just one other hit through five innings, Springs was pulled following a one-out walk to Bryce Eldridge and a single by Casey Schmitt in the sixth.

Left-hander Matt Krook struck out Rafael Devers before walking Adames to load the bases for Lee, whose liner to right field bounced past a charging Butler, rolling to the wall as all three baserunners scored.

Justin Sterner replaced Krook and saw his second offering deposited well over the fence in center field by Bericoto for his third homer of the season.

Springs was charged with three runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. Giants starter Landen Roupp allowed two runs on six hits in six innings. Both struck out six.

McNeil and Bolte collected three hits each, while Butler, Williams and Soderstrom had two apiece for the A’s, who snapped a four-game losing streak with a 15-hit attack.

Adames scored twice for the Giants, who managed just five hits.
