The Baltimore Orioles placed starting pitcher Tyler Wells on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right elbow inflammation.
The right-hander was scheduled to start Wednesday afternoon against the visiting Minnesota Twins. Wells, 29, last pitched on Friday, taking the loss after yielding four runs and six hits in four innings in an 11-1 home loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The stint on IL is retroactive to Saturday.
Wells is 0-2 with a 5.87 ERA, three walks and 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings over three games this season. In parts of four seasons with Baltimore, he is 16-18 with a 4.06 ERA, 77 walks and 271 strikeouts in 294 2/3 innings over 95 games (46 starts).
In corresponding moves, the Orioles selected the contract of catcher David Banuelos from Triple-A Norfolk and designated infielder Livan Soto for assignment to make room for Banuelos on the 40-man roster.
Banuelos, 27, is a career minor leaguer who was 3-for-11 in two games for Norfolk this season. Soto, 23, had not appeared in a game for Baltimore this season after playing parts of the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
