The Baltimore Orioles placed right-hander Grayson Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right lat/teres discomfort.
Rodriguez was scratched from his start Tuesday night vs. Toronto. The move is retroactive to Sunday.
In a corresponding move, the O’s recalled LHP Keegan Akin from Triple-A Norfolk.
Also, the Orioles placed Heston Kjerstad on the 10-day IL with a concussion. Kjerstad had been on the seven-day concussion IL before being sent down to Norfolk on Aug. 1. Kjerstad hasn’t played since being hit in the helmet by a pitch on July 12 against the New York Yankees.
Rodriguez, 24, is 13-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 20 starts this season. His 13 victories is tied for the major league lead through Tuesday. He’s 20-8 with a 4.11 ERA in 43 starts across two seasons with the O’s.
Akin, 29, is 2-0 with a 3.34 ERA in 47 relief appearances this season. He was sent down on Aug. 1 after the club acquired Gregory Soto at the trade deadline.
Baltimore also placed right-hander Jacob Webb (right elbow inflammation) on the 15-day IL, retroactive to Sunday, and recalled right-hander Bryan Baker from Norfolk.
Webb, 30, is 1-5 with two saves and a 3.08 ERA, 24 walks and 53 strikeouts over 49 2/3 innings in 53 appearances this season. Baker, 29, is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA, five walks and 14 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings over 14 appearances for the Orioles this season.
