Manny Machado’s fourth hit tied the game in the ninth inning, Jake Cronenworth delivered a two-out RBI single in the 10th and the San Diego Padres stunned the host San Francisco Giants with a second straight extra-inning win Tuesday night, 3-2.

Cronenworth’s hit came off the fifth Giants pitcher, Spencer Bivens (1-2), who had retired Gavin Sheets and Xander Bogaerts with extra-inning runner Jackson Merrill advancing only as far as third base.

Cronenworth then hit Bivens’ next pitch into right field for what turned out to be the game-winner.

The Giants got the potential tying run to third with one out in the 10th, via a sacrifice by Casey Schmidt. But Jeremiah Estrada, pitching for the second consecutive night, retired Heliot Ramos on a grounder to a drawn-in Bogaerts at shortstop before getting Jung Hoo Lee to ground to second to end it.

Yuki Matsui (1-1), who pitched a scoreless ninth, was credited with the win. Estrada notched his second save.

Trailing 2-0 and down to their final out in the ninth, the Padres rallied into a tie on Machado’s bases-loaded, two-run single off Giants closer Camilo Doval.

For the second consecutive night, the Giants saw a shutout pitching effort from their starter go for naught. Landen Roupp, who had pitched into the seventh just twice previously in his two-year career, allowed just four hits and two walks in 6 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out five.

Roupp pitched much of the game with a lead thanks to Ramos’ 11th homer of the season, in the third off Padres starter Ryan Bergert. Patrick Bailey had led off the inning with a double.

Making his first big-league start, Bergert kept the visitors in the game by limiting the Giants to just those two runs in five innings. He allowed six hits and two walks, while striking out two.

Machado, who went 4-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs, and late-game San Diego substitute Brandon Lockridge, who had two singles, were the only players with multiple hits. In winning their fourth straight over the Giants this season, the Padres did not record an extra-base hit.
