San Diego Padres ace Yu Darvish landed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with neck tightness.
The 37-year-old right-hander’s designation is retroactive to Monday.
The Padres’ Opening Day starter is 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA through five starts this season.
Darvish last appeared on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings in a no-decision against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
The five-time All-Star is 103-86 with a 3.60 ERA and 1,951 strikeouts in 271 career games (all starts) with the Texas Rangers (2012-14, 2016-17), Dodgers (2017), Chicago Cubs (2018-20) and Padres.
San Diego recalled right-hander Logan Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding transaction. He is 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA in five relief appearances there this season.
