Philadelphia Phillies All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm wasn’t in the starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Atlanta Braves due to a left hand injury.
Bohm injured the hand during an at-bat in Thursday’s 5-4 victory over the Braves. He was hurt on a swing in the first inning and was replaced by Edmundo Sosa before the top of the third inning.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said prior to Friday’s game that Bohm had “a little inflammation” in the hand. He said X-rays were negative.
“There’s no structural damage, so we got a break,” Thomson said.
Bohm was undergoing treatment during Friday’s game in case the hand might improve and lead to him being available as a pinch hitter. Thomson said he didn’t know if Bohm could return to the starting lineup on Saturday.
Bohm leads the majors with 44 doubles in 131 games this season, his fifth in the majors. He is hitting .290 with 13 homers and 89 RBIs.
Sosa started at third base on Friday night.
Philadelphia began the day six games in front of the Braves in the National League East.
