The Pittsburgh Pirates are placing catcher/first baseman Endy Rodriguez on the 10-day injured list with a finger laceration, MLB.com reported Tuesday.
Rodriguez, 24, required stitches after taking a deflected pitch off his right index finger during Monday’s 10-3 win against the Washington Nationals.
Rodriguez is batting .178 (8-for-45) with three doubles and two RBIs in 15 games this season. He has started nine games at first base and five games behind the plate.
The Pirates are recalling right-hander Chase Shugart from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Shugart, 28, made three appearances out of the Pittsburgh bullpen earlier this month, allowing two hits in 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
