The New York Yankees acquired right-hander JT Brubaker and international signing bonus money from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday in exchange for a player to be named later.
Brubaker, 30, missed all of last season after Tommy John surgery in April 2023. The Pirates had placed him on the 60-day injured list on Feb. 19.
Pittsburgh had selected Brubaker in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Akron. In parts of three major league seasons (2020-22), he is 9-28 with a 4.99 ERA, 109 walks and 324 strikeouts in 315 2/3 innings over 63 games (61 starts).
In a separate move, the Pirates sent right-hander Colin Holderman, 28, currently on the 15-day injured list (illness) on a rehabilitation assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis.
