Bryce Eldridge drove in two runs, including the tie-breaking run on a double in the 10th, to lift the San Francisco Giants to a 5-4 comeback win over the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.
Eldridge’s double down the left field line off reliever Camilo Doval (3-2) scored Christian Koss. Rafael Devers then scored on Turner Hill’s sacrifice fly to give the Giants (58-82) their third win in their past four games. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Pirates (68-72), who fell 5 1/2 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final National League wild card berth.
Devers finished with two hits, walked twice and swatted his 32nd home run of the season. His solo shot in the first marked his third consecutive game with a home run.
Nick Gonzales began the bottom of the 10th with a single up the middle that drove in Bryan Reynolds to cut the deficit to 5-4. But Dylan Smith struck out Oneil Cruz and Esmerlyn Valdez and retired Rafael Flores Jr. on a flyout to center to pick up his fourth save.
Pittsburgh tied the game in the eighth off reliever Carson Seymour. Bryan Reynolds led off the eighth with a double that missed being a home run by a few feet. After moving over to third, Reynolds scored on an infield single to short by Cruz to make it 3-3.
Cruz moved to second on a ground out by Gonzales and stole third, but was stranded there when Flores Jr. struck out to end the inning.
Jacob Gonzalez doubled off the wall in right center with one out in the ninth off reliever Jason Foley (2-1) and moved to third on a groundout. But Reynolds (2-for-5) lined out to Hill in left to end the inning.
Giants starter Landen Roupp retired the first nine batters he faced, but the Pirates broke through in the fourth when Roupp walked Valdez to force in a run. Roupp gave up one run on two hits and two walks and struck out four over five innings. Pirates starter Bubba Chandler allowed three runs on five hits over five innings.
