The Texas Rangers placed catcher Kyle Higashioka on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a mild left intercostal strain.
The move is retroactive to Wednesday, one day after Higashioka sustained the rib injury while running out a three-run double in the eighth inning of the Rangers’ 15-2 victory over the Athletics.
Higashioka, 35, is batting .254 with one homer and eight RBIs in 17 games in his first season with Texas. He signed a two-year deal in free agency in December.
Higashioka is a career .214 hitter with 58 homers and 174 RBIs in 415 games with the New York Yankees (2017-23), San Diego Padres (2024) and Rangers.
In a corresponding move, the Rangers recalled right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley from Triple-A Round Rock.
Boushley, 31, has a 5.87 ERA in three relief appearances this season with Texas. He made his major league debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023 and pitched in two games for the Minnesota Twins in 2024.
