The Tampa Bay Rays acquired right-hander Victor Castaneda on Wednesday from the Milwaukee Brewers as the player to be named later in the trade that sent right-hander Javy Guerra to the Brewers in November.
Castaneda, 24, has yet to pitch in the major leagues but has advanced to Triple-A in each of the past two seasons. At two minor league levels last season, the Mexico native was a combined 6-6 with a 4.10 ERA in 26 appearances (25 starts).
Guerra, 27, was traded from the San Diego Padres to the Rays in April of last year for cash considerations. In four major league seasons with the Padres and Rays he is 3-1 with a 6.60 ERA in 44 appearances.
While Castaneda did not give up a run in 1 2/3 innings over three outings for the Brewers this spring, Guerra has a 3.86 ERA in 2 1/3 spring innings for Milwaukee.
