The Cincinnati Reds placed first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a fractured right wrist.
Encarnacion-Strand is expected to miss four to six weeks.
In another move, Cincinnati signed free-agent first baseman Mike Ford to a one-year major league contract. Left-hander Brandon Williamson was also transferred from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL as he deals with an injured throwing shoulder.
Encarnacion-Strand, 24, has hit .190 with two home runs and 16 RBIs in 29 games this season, his second with the Reds.
The 31-year-old Ford has yet to make his season debut. He signed with Cincinnati on a minor league deal back in February, was released on March 24, then signed back with the team five days later.
However, Ford was once again let go on Saturday. He appeared in 83 games for the Seattle Mariners last year, hitting .228 with 16 homers and 34 RBIs.
Williamson, 26, is coming off a rookie campaign in which he went 5-5 with a 4.46 ERA in 23 starts.
