The Houston Astros turned the trade deadline into a reunion Thursday as they reacquired shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins.

Houston sent the Twins left-handed pitching prospect Matt Mikulski. The Astros will also receive cash from the Twins in the deal.

In a separate deal, the Astros also acquired outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Miami Marlins for right-handed pitcher Ryan Gusto, infield prospect Chase Jaworsky and outfield prospect Esmil Valencia.

Correa, 30, played his first seven seasons with the Astros, batting .277 with 133 home runs and 489 RBIs in 752 games, while winning American League Rookie of the Year in 2015 and earning two All-Star nods. Correa helped the Astros to the 2017 World Series title.

In 79 postseason games with the Astros, Correa was a .272 hitter with 18 home runs and 59 RBIs.

The move gives the Astros a pair of high-level shortstops, along with Jeremy Pena, with MLB Network reporting that Correa ultimately has agreed to move to third base. Pena is currently on the injured list with a rib fracture.

Correa left the Astros in free agency after the 2021 season and had a contract agreement with the New York Mets, when he agreed to move to third base, but that deal was nixed after a medical exam.

Correa ended up signing a three-year, $105.3 million deal with the Twins instead, then replaced that deal with a six-year, $200-million contract that runs through 2028 and includes club options that could extend the deal until 2032.

In four seasons with the Twins, Correa batted .271 with 61 home runs and 214 RBIs in 450 games.

Sanchez, 27, is batting .256 with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs in 86 games for the Marlins. He gives the Astros the left-handed bat they desired. Over six seasons in Miami, Sanchez is a career .243 hitter with 69 home runs and 226 RBIs in 532 games.

Mikulski, 26, has split the season between Rookie ball and High-A and recorded a 7.63 ERA over 12 relief appearances.

Gusto, 26, made his major league debut earlier this season and has gone 7-4 with a 4.92 ERA in 24 appearances (14 starts).

Jaworsky, 21, is batting .242 with three homers, 29 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 57 games at High-A Asheville.

Valencia, 19, has batted .263 with five homers, 36 RBIs and 50 stolen bases in 83 games for Class-A Fayetteville.
