The future is set to arrive for the Baltimore Orioles.
The Orioles are calling up No. 1 prospect Jackson Holliday, ESPN and MLB.com reported Tuesday night.
Holliday, a middle infielder, is not only the top prospect in Baltimore’s organization, but he is also the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball in ranings by multipe outlets. The 20-year-old was selected by the Orioles with the first overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Stillwater (Okla.) High School.
In 10 games with Triple-A Norfolk this season, Holliday hit .333 with two home runs and nine RBIs. He sailed through the minors in 2023, ending the year with Norfolk after starting with Class-A Delmarva.
Holliday is expected to join the big-league club in Boston on Wednesday for its meeting with the Red Sox, per the reports.
Baltimore has won six of its first 10 games to open the 2024 campaign following a 7-1 win over Boston on Tuesday.
Holliday is the son of former outfielder and seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday, who had a 15-year career in the major leagues with the Colorado Rockies (2004-08, 2018), Oakland Athletics (2009), St. Louis Cardinals (2009-16) and New York Yankees (2017).
Matt Holliday played 1,903 games in his career and hit 316 home runs with 1,220 RBIs.
