The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Willson Contreras and cash considerations from the St. Louis Cardinals, multiple media outlets reported.
The Cardinals reportedly will receive right-hander Hunter Dobbins and pitching prospects Yhoiker Fajardo and Blake Aita to complete the deal.
The reported trade is the second in as many months between the teams. All-Star right-hander Sonny Gray waived his no-trade clause to leave the Cardinals and join the Red Sox on Nov. 25.
Boston will receive $8 million to cover the remaining $42.5 million on Contreras’ contract, multiple media outlets reported. He is due to make $18 million in 2026 and $18.5 million in 2027.
Contreras, 33, batted .257 with 20 homers and 80 RBIs in 135 games last season.
A three-time All-Star, Contreras is a career .258 hitter with 172 homers and 548 RBIs in 1,078 games with the Chicago Cubs (2016-22) and Cardinals.
Dobbins, 26, posted a 4-1 record with a 4.13 ERA in 13 appearances (11 starts) last season before sustaining a torn ACL.
Fajardo, 19, went 1-4 with a 2.25 ERA in 72 innings between the Florida Complex League and Low-A Salem this past year.
Aita, 22, posted a 5-7 record with a 3.98 ERA in 23 games (19 starts) split between the Single-A and High-A levels.
