The New York Yankees are expected to activate third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the 10-day injured list on Friday, multiple media outlets reported.
Chisholm, 26, was injured sliding into home plate in a game against the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 12. He landed on the 10-day injured list two days later with a UCL sprain.
Chisholm is eligible to return from the injured list on Friday for the Yankees’ game versus the visiting Colorado Rockies.
A roster spot is available after New York demoted infielder Oswald Peraza to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. Peraza was summoned from Triple-A to replace Chisholm after the latter went on the injured list.
“I would say he’s real close to a return,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday prior to the team’s 6-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians.
Chisholm has given New York an immediate spark since he was acquired from the Miami Marlins for three prospects on July 27. He became the first player in franchise history to hit seven homers in his first 12 games with the club.
Chisholm spent his first four-plus seasons in the major leagues with the Marlins, hitting .246 with 66 homers and 205 RBIs in 403 games. He is batting .316 with seven homers and 11 RBIs in 14 games with the Yankees.
