Cole Carrigg delivered a go-ahead two-run single in a four-run seventh inning as the Colorado Rockies edged the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Saturday night in Denver.
Juan Mejia (4-6) pitched two innings and Brennan Bernardino got the final three outs for his second save for Colorado (57-98).
Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena homered and Julio Rodriguez and Michael Arroyo had two hits each for Seattle (72-83), which is on the brink of elimination in the AL wild-card race.
Before the game, the Rockies honored Hall of Fame first baseman Todd Helton with the unveiling of a statue of him in front of Coors Field. The statue depicts Helton celebrating after catching the last out of the 2007 NLCS that sent Colorado to the World Series.
Colorado lefty Jose Quintana made first start since May 24, missing nearly four months with a left elbow sprain. He allowed three runs on five hits in four innings and gave up two home runs.
Raleigh gave the Mariners a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run homer, his 23rd of the season, and Arozarena made it 3-0 in the third inning with his 26th long ball.
But Colorado capitalized on bad Seattle defense to get a run back in the bottom of the inning.
With one out, Jake McCarthy laid down a bunt single that Raleigh fielded and threw wildly to first, allowing McCarthy to advance to third. Connor Norby hit a fly ball to short right, and McCarthy raced home when Dominic Canzone’s throw short-hopped Raleigh.
That was all Seattle starter Bryce Miller gave up. He allowed an unearned run on four hits and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings.
The Rockies rallied in the seventh to take the lead against reliever Jose Ferrer (4-4). Zac Veen and Adael Amador hit one-out singles and Veen came around on McCarthy’s groundout.
With two outs, Norby delivered an infield single, bringing up TJ Rumfield, who drove in Amador with a single up the middle to knot the game at 3-3.
Hunter Goodman walked to load the bases and Carrigg hit a two-run single to center off Cooper Criswell to put Colorado in front.
Norby and Rumfield each had a pair of singles for Colorado, who did not record an extra-base hit in the game.
