Kade Anderson threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits in the longest outing of his rookie season, and the visiting Seattle Mariners stayed alive in the postseason race with a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rockies in Denver on Sunday.

Dominic Canzone had two hits and two RBIs for Seattle (73-83), which gained a game on the Texas Rangers in the AL West. The Mariners also avoided elimination in the wild-card race.

Seattle closer Andres Munoz left the game in the ninth with an apparent injury after giving up a one-out homer to Hunter Goodman and walking TJ Rumfield. Munoz flexed his right arm after the walk, and he left after the trainer came out.

Eduard Bazardo struck out two around a walk to pick up his first save.

Anderson (2-2), who made his major league debut at the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 22, bounced back from his worst outing with his best. He allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings at the Los Angeles Angels on Monday.

He struck out a career-high seven and worked out of one jam — in the sixth inning when Jake McCarthy tripled with one out. Anderson struck out Connor Norby looking and Goodman swinging to strand McCarthy.

Goodman’s 39th home run of the season couldn’t prevent Colorado (57-99) from moving within one loss of its fourth consecutive 100-loss season.

Rockies third baseman Kyle Karros was a late scratch from the lineup due to back spasms.

Colorado starter Tomoyuki Sugano (12-11) retired the first 10 Mariners he faced before issuing a one-out walk to Randy Arozarena in the fourth. Canzone followed with a single to center and Arozarena, who broke for second on the pitch, beat the throw home to give Seattle a 1-0 lead.

Cal Raleigh followed with a walk, but Sugano got out of the jam by inducing a double-play groundout from Julio Rodriguez.

Sugano allowed one run on one hit, walked two and struck out five in five innings.

Canzone’s RBI double off Ryan Feltner in the sixth gave the Mariners a 2-0 lead.
