tobias myers

Rookie Tobias Myers allowed four hits over eight scoreless innings to pace the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-0 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, evening the series at a game apiece.

Myers (6-3) struck out six and walked one in a 103-pitch outing for his fifth win in his last six decisions. Rob Zastryzny finished with a perfect ninth.

Through the first six innings, the only hit allowed by Myers was a leadoff single in the fourth. Rowdy Tellez doubled to open the seventh and moved to third on Joshua Palacios’ one-out single. Myers escaped by getting Ke’Bryan Hayes on an inning-ending double-play bouncer to first.

Martin Perez (1-5) allowed five runs on nine hits, needing 107 pitches to get through 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked three.

Rhys Hoskins put the Brewers in front 5-0 in the fifth with a two-out solo homer, his 14th, sending a 3-1 pitch 417 feet to left. Willy Adames added a three-run homer in the eighth, his 14th, to make it 9-0.

Milwaukee scored twice in the first after two outs. Christian Yelich beat out an infield single and Adames followed with an RBI double to the gap in right-center. Sal Frelick then lined a run-scoring single to left.

William Contreras doubled in a pair of runs in the fourth to put Milwaukee up 4-0. Andruw Monasterio and Brice Turang had consecutive one-out singles. Monasterio advanced to third on a fly out. Both runners scored on Contreras’ liner to left, with Turang’s head-first slide beating the throw home.

Monasterio’s RBI single in the seventh made it 6-0.

Pittsburgh, which pounded out five homers in a 12-2 win in the series opener, had homered in 12 consecutive games vs. Milwaukee dating back to last season.
