The Kansas City Royals placed right-hander Michael Wacha on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a fractured left foot.
The move was retroactive to Saturday, one day after Wacha was drilled by a comebacker off the bat of Luis Arraez in the first inning of an 11-8 loss to the San Diego Padres. Wacha remained in the game and received a no-decision after allowing two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Wacha, 32, is 4-5 with a 4.24 ERA in 12 starts this season. He owns a 92-59 record with a 3.98 ERA in 261 career appearances (240 starts) with six teams.
Also on Sunday, the Royals recalled left-hander Daniel Lynch IV from Triple-A Omaha.
Lynch, 27, has a 1.50 ERA and 0.75 WHIP without a decision in three games (two starts) with Kansas City this season. He is 11-23 with a 5.01 ERA in 54 career appearances (53 starts) with the Royals since 2021.
