Shea Langeliers homers as A’s double up Mariners

Athletics, Mariners

Shea Langeliers hit a two-run homer and Osvaldo Bido gave up one earned run over five-plus innings as the Athletics defeated the host Seattle Mariners 4-2 on Saturday night.

It was the Athletics’ second straight victory after dropping the season opener.

Bido (1-0), a right-hander, gave up two runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Mason Miller worked the ninth for his first save of the season.

Trailing 1-0, the A’s took the lead in the fourth. With one out, Brent Rooker lined a single to right field. After a groundout, Langeliers hit an 0-1 fastball from Mariners starter Bryce Miller (0-1) just over the left field wall to make it 2-1.

The A’s added a run in the sixth as JJ Bleday drew a leadoff walk and took second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Miguel Andujar grounded a single into center, scoring Bleday and ending Miller’s night.

Miller allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Mariners pulled within a run in the bottom of the inning after Randy Arozarena drew a leadoff walk off Bido, ending his night. Reliever Hogan Harris tried to pick the runner off, but his errant throw rolled down the right field line, allowing Arozarena to advance to third.

With one out, Jorge Polanco grounded a run-scoring single to left and pinch hitter Dylan Moore walked. A’s manager Mark Kotsay brought in Noah Murdock for his major league debut and he got Bliss to line out to right and caught J.P. Crawford looking at a third strike to end the inning.

The A’s made it 4-2 in the seventh as Jacob Wilson reached on a two-base error by reliever Collin Snyder, who ran into Cal Raleigh as the catcher was about to catch a popup down the third base line. Wilson took third on a groundout to the right side of the infield and scored as Rooker beat out a slow roller to third baseman Polanco.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the second as, with one out, Rowdy Tellez and Ryan Bliss singled to left. Tellez took third on Crawford’s flyout to deep center and scored when catcher Langeliers threw the ball into center field while attempting to catch Bliss stealing second.

The Mariners went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine on base.
