The Detroit Tigers placed shortstop Javier Baez on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday due to lumbar spine inflammation.
The designation is retroactive to Sunday for Baez, a two-time All-Star who is hitting just .183 with one homer and 25 RBIs in 53 games this season.
Baez, 31, is a career .252 hitter with 176 home runs and 616 RBIs in 1,195 games with the Chicago Cubs (2014-21), New York Mets (2021) and Tigers.
The Tigers recalled shortstop Ryan Kreidler from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Kreidler, 26, is hitting .160 with one homer and five RBIs in nine games for the Mud Hens.
