Willi Castro went 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer and two RBIs, and the Minnesota Twins pulled away for a 6-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night in Minneapolis.
Carlos Correa and Trevor Larnach each added solo home runs for the Twins. Minnesota has won two of its first three games against Seattle entering Thursday afternoon’s series finale.
Mitch Garver went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Mariners. Cal Raleigh finished 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Twins right-hander Chris Paddack (4-1) held the Mariners to one run on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out 10, which matched his season high.
Mariners right-hander George Kirby (3-3) allowed four runs on four hits, including three home runs, in five innings. He walked one and struck out four.
Twins closer Jhoan Duran pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save in his past five appearances.
The Twins jumped to a 2-0 lead with back-to-back homers by Correa and Larnach in the bottom of the first. Correa hit a 406-foot blast to center field, and Larnach followed two pitches later with a 400-foot shot to right-center field.
Castro joined the power surge with a solo shot in the bottom of the second to increase the Twins’ lead to 3-0. It marked Castro’s third homer of the season and his first since April 24 against the Chicago White Sox.
Seattle got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with Garver’s solo home run to right field. Garver jumped on a first-pitch fastball for his fourth homer of the year.
Castro struck again, this time with an RBI triple, in the bottom of the fourth. His hit to right field drove in Jose Miranda to give Minnesota a 4-1 advantage.
The Mariners cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the seventh. Raleigh hit a two-run double to center field to score Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Haniger.
Ryan Jeffers and Max Kepler added back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the eighth to increase the Twins’ lead to 6-3.
