Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Daniel Duarte will undergo season-ending elbow surgery on May 8, the team said Saturday.
It has not been determined whether he will have Tommy John surgery or internal brace surgery. The type of procedure will impact his return date in 2025.
Duarte was a non-roster invitee in spring training and made the team.
In two games, the right-hander was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA, throwing four innings and giving up one run on two hits. He struck out three batters and walked one.
Duarte, 27, spent the past two seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. He was 3-0 with a 4.19 ERA and one save in 34 games.
