Twins sign INF Donovan Solano to one-year deal

The Minnesota Twins confirmed the signing of infielder Donovan Solano to a one-year contract on Thursday.

MLB Network reported the deal was for $2 million guaranteed plus up to $250,000 in incentives.

Solano, 35, is a nine-year veteran who batted .284 with a .724 OPS, four home runs and 24 RBIs in 80 games last season for the Cincinnati Reds.

A .278 career hitter with a .701 OPS, Solano also has 27 home runs and 206 RBIs in 686 games for the Miami Marlins (2012-15), New York Yankees (2016), San Francisco Giants (2019-21) and Reds.

Primarily a second baseman, Solano does have experience at all four infield positions and has played a handful of games in the outfield.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins moved right-hander Chris Paddack to the 60-day injured list. He is expected to miss most of the 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
