The Chicago White Sox placed Martin Perez on the 15-day injured list Saturday and recalled fellow left-hander Jared Shuster from Triple-A Charlotte.
Perez left Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox after three innings with left elbow inflammation. He allowed five hits on his 52 pitches, one of which was the first of two three-run homers by Trevor Story in Chicago’s 10-2 loss.
“We need Martin,” White Sox manager Will Venable said on Friday night. “We need the things that he does on the mound, the things that he does in the clubhouse.”
Perez, 34, is 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA in four starts this season, his first with the team since signing a one-year, $5 million contract.
A first-time All-Star in 2022 with Texas, Perez is 91-88 with a 4.43 ERA in 318 career games (273 starts) with the Rangers (2012-18, 2022-23), Minnesota Twins (2019), Red Sox (2020-21), Pittsburgh Pirates (2024), San Diego Padres (2024) and White Sox.
Shuster, 26, is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in six relief appearances with Charlotte this season.
He has gone 6-8 with a 4.93 ERA in 50 career games (15 starts) with the Atlanta Braves (2023) and White Sox.
