The Chicago White Sox signed veteran infielder Elvis Andrus to a one-year deal worth $3 million.
The club designated left-hander Bennett Sousa for assignment, per its news release Monday.
Andrus, 34, batted .249 with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs for the Oakland A’s and White Sox in 2022. The White Sox signed Andrus in August, two days after he was released by the A’s.
Andrus is a career .270 hitter with 96 HRs and 335 stolen bases in 14 seasons with Texas (2009-20), Oakland and the White Sox.
With Tim Anderson back from injury at shortstop, Andrus is expected to vie for the starting job at second base.
Sousa, 27, went 3-0 with a 8.41 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the White Sox in 2022.
