The New York Yankees recalled Cody Poteet from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned fellow right-hander Cody Morris to Triple-A.
Poteet, 29, is set to start Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in place of Clarke Schmidt, who was placed on the injured list Thursday with a strained right lat.
Poteet (1-0, 1.50 ERA) will be making his second appearance for the Yankees this season. He gave up one run in six innings in an 8-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on April 13.
After pitching in parts of two seasons for the Miami Marlins, Poteet is 3-4 with a 4.18 ERA in 20 career major league appearances (10 starts).
Morris, 27, was recalled to the Yankees on Thursday but did not pitch. Over the previous two seasons with the Guardians, he was 1-2 with a 3.41 ERA in 13 appearances (five starts).
