The New York Yankees reinstated right-hander Tommy Kahnle from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday, paving the way for the key bullpen arm to make his season debut.
Kahnle, 34, was placed on the IL in spring training with lingering shoulder inflammation that also landed him on the IL at the end of last season.
In a corresponding move, the Yankees optioned left-hander Clayton Andrews to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Tuesday night’s loss.
Kahnle is expected to slot in to a set-up role in the late innings along with Luke Weaver.
Kahnle is 10-12 with a 3.64 ERA and seven saves in 340 career relief appearances with four teams, including two different stints with the Yankees.
Andrews appeared in one game for the Yankees this season, giving up a run in one-third of an inning.
