San Diego FC announced the addition of actress and producer Issa Rae to the MLS expansion club’s ownership group on Tuesday.
Rae, 40, is best known for her work with the Emmy-nominated HBO series “Insecure.”
“Joining San Diego FC’s ownership group is an incredible honor, and I am thrilled to be part of building something that represents and uplifts this vibrant community,” Rae said in a news release. “Soccer is a universal language that has the power to bring people together, and I look forward to contributing to San Diego FC’s journey as we make history in MLS.”
San Diego FC’s first match is scheduled for Feb. 23 on the road against the defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy.
Other partners in the club include San Diego Padres All-Star Manny Machado and FIFA World Cup winner Juan Mata.
