Hoping to snap a six-match winless stretch, Atlanta United hosts Charlotte FC on Saturday in Eastern Conference play.

Atlanta (4-10-8, 20 points) last won on May 28 — a 3-2 victory over Orlando City SC — but the club has picked up points with three straight draws. After five consecutive matches away from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta returned home on Wednesday to post a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire.

Although coach Ronny Deila knows his team needs to start stacking wins together, progress is slowly but surely being made.

“We need to work with our performances,” Deila said on Wednesday. “But we don’t give up and we keep going and are getting something out of it. There’s a big difference between losing and drawing.”

Atlanta was heading toward its fourth loss in six tries on Wednesday, before rookie Will Reilly scored the first goal of his MLS career in extra time to salvage a draw against Chicago. Emmanuel Latte Lath paces the team with six goals, while Miguel Almiron, Alexsey Miranchuk and Jamal Thiare each follow with three apiece.

Charlotte (10-11-2, 32 points) has won two straight, including a 2-1 triumph over D.C. United on Wednesday. Pep Biel, who leads the team with nine goals and 10 assists, scored twice in the win to help cement Charlotte’s first winning streak since a three-game stretch in April.

“It was a good result for us,” Charlotte coach Dean Smith said. “I was disappointed with the goal that we gave away, but it was as comfortable a performance as we’ve had. … (Pep) is enjoying football at the moment. You can see it in his play.”

Charlotte has taken three of four against Atlanta since May 2023, including a 2-0 win at home on March 1. Biel and Wilfried Zaha each scored in the first meeting between the teams this season.

Behind team leader Biel, Patrick Agyemang has netted six goals in 2025.
