Austin FC signed former Los Angeles FC captain Ilie Sanchez through 2025 with an option for 2026.
The deal with the 34-year-old Spanish-American midfielder was announced on Tuesday.
Sanchez is a two-time All-Star who won the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup with LAFC in 2022. He converted the title-clinching penalty kick in the shootout win against the Philadelphia Union.
He also is a two-time winner of the US Open Cup with LAFC in 2024 and Sporting Kansas City in 2017.
“Ilie has been one of the league’s top defensive midfielders in recent seasons,” Austin FC sporting director Rodolfo Borrell said. “His quality, experience and leadership will make him an excellent addition to our group.”
Sanchez has 10 goals and 18 assists in 242 MLS matches (219 starts) with Sporting KC (2017-21) and LAFC.
