Dor Turgeman scored two goals to help the visiting New England Revolution clinch a playoff berth with a 3-2 victory over FC Cincinnati on Wednesday.
The Revolution (15-10-4, 49 points) officially punched their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 2023 by virtue of their win, New York City FC’s 2-0 loss at Inter Miami and the New York Red Bulls’ 2-1 setback against D.C. United.
Joshua Wynder scored his first career MLS goal, fellow defender Peyton Miller notched two assists and Matt Turner made eight saves for New England.
The Revolution rebounded after dropping consecutive 3-0 setbacks by defeating FC Cincinnati for the second time this season. New England coasted to a 6-1 home victory on March 15.
Tom Barlow scored a goal in his third straight match and Kevin Denkey added his team-best 17th of the season for FC Cincinnati (9-10-9, 36 points), who fell to 1-4-3 in their last eight matches. Evan Louro turned aside two shots in defeat.
Carles Gil’s corner kick was headed home by an unmarked Wynder to give New England a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute.
Turgeman, who leveled the contest in the 21st minute, put the Revolution up 3-1 in the 51st minute after converting a through ball from Miller. That goal was Turgeman’s ninth of the season and fifth in his last eight matches.
Denkey halved the deficit in the 67th minute, however FC Cincinnati could not net the equalizer.
Tyrell Malacia’s throw-in sailed over the head of Denkey and right to a sprinting Barlow, who beat Turner inside the near post to open the scoring in the 13th minute. The goal was Barlow’s career-high ninth of the season.
The Revolution responded eight minutes later, as Miller delivered a service that Turgeman one-timed inside the near post off Louro’s hand.
