The Houston Dynamo re-signed defender Erik Sviatchenko through 2026 with a club option for 2027 on Tuesday.
Sviatchenko, 33, is in his third season with Houston. He has appeared in 78 matches (71 starts) in all competitions.
“Erik has been a stalwart at the center of our defense since arriving in Houston and a key contributor to our success over the past two seasons,” said Pat Onstad, Dynamo president of soccer. “We are pleased that Erik committed to Houston, and we look forward to his continued contributions as we push for a third successive playoff appearance this season.”
The Denmark native has contributed to 20 clean sheets since arriving in March 2023, including three this season He also has one goal and four assists in MLS competition.
“This is such a huge moment in my journey. Houston has been home for me and my family, and I truly believe in what we are building at the club,” Sviatchenko said. “I want to thank the fans for their energy, passion and unwavering support — they are the heart of this club.”
Before MLS, Sviatchenko played in 325 matches and won five titles with FC Midtjylland in Denmark and played in 63 games with six titles at Celtic FC in Scotland.
