Jesus Ferreira’s brace pushes FC Dallas past Galaxy

Jesus Ferreira scored two goals just eight minutes apart in the second half to propel FC Dallas to a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday in Frisco, Texas.

Alan Velasco scored in first-half stoppage time and Paul Arriola notched two assists. Maarten Paes made five saves for FC Dallas (1-1-0, three points), who bounced back from last weekend’s 1-0 setback to Minnesota United.

Los Angeles’ Dejan Joveljic opened the scoring in the 35th minute and Jonathan Bond turned aside one shot. The Galaxy (0-1-0, zero points), who failed to convert on all seven of their corner kicks, were playing in their first match of the season after their scheduled opener versus Los Angeles FC was postponed due to heavy rain.

Ferreira settled a loose ball before scoring from the center of the box to give FC Dallas a 2-1 lead at the 56-minute mark. He tallied again just eight minutes later after depositing a feed from Paxton Pomykal inside the left post for his second goal of the season and 38th of his MLS career.

Ferreira also scored two goals in FC Dallas’ 3-1 victory over the Galaxy on May 14, 2022.

Gaston Brugman’s through ball found Preston Judd, however the latter’s bid to halve the deficit in the 81st minute missed just left of the net.

Kelvin Leerdam’s cross from a sharp angle deep in the box found Joveljic in front for the Joveljic’s first goal of the season. Joveljic had 11 goals last season to reside second on the Galaxy behind only Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez (18), who sat out on Saturday and will miss two-to-five weeks due to a hamstring injury.

FC Dallas forged a tie after Arriola chased down a lead pass before sending a centering feed to a charging Velasco, who deposited the ball in the back of the net. Velasco’s goal was his first of the season.
