Los Angeles FC signed forward Cristian Tello from Spain on Friday, just two days after forward Brian Rodriguez was transferred to Club America in Mexico.
Tello, 31, most recently played for Spain’s Real Betis, while also winning a La Liga title with Barcelona in 2012-13. His LAFC deal through the end of this season also includes options for 2023 and 2024.
“Cristian is a dangerous attacker and a great fit to what we are building at LAFC,” club co-president and general manager John Thorrington said in a release. “He has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world and has succeeded in high-pressure situations like the Champions League.”
Tello scored 28 goals with 24 assists in 199 La Liga games. He has also played for Porto in Portugal and Fiorentina in Italy. In addition to his club experience, Tello played one game with Spain’s national team and represented his country in the 2012 Summer Olympics at London.
LAFC (18-5-3, 57 points) is currently the top team in MLS and on pace to surpass the New England Revolution’s record of 73 points while winning the Supporters’ Shield title a season ago.
