The New England Revolution named Marko Mitrovic their head coach on Friday.

The 47-year-old becomes the 10th head coach in club history. This is his first Major League Soccer head coaching job after more than 15 years at the international and pro levels.

“During the interview process, Marko’s tactical acumen and modern coaching philosophies set him apart,” said Curt Onalfo, New England’s sporting director. “It’s crystal clear that he shares our ambitions to compete for trophies in 2026 and beyond. His extensive coaching experience at both the club and international levels, including on some of the world’s biggest stages, have prepared him well for this pivotal role.”

Those jobs include coaching the United States Under-20s to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinals and leading the U.S. Under-23s to the same round at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

He had been with U.S. Soccer since 2022 and previously served as an assistant coach for Chicago Fire FC from 2016-19.

“It’s an honor to join the Revolution and become the new head coach of this storied club,” Mitrovic said. “I will work relentlessly to deliver a team the fans will be proud to support. I’m excited to get started.”

Before coaching in the U.S. Mitrovic coached national and pro teams in his native Serbia, filling his first head coaching role in 2013 with Red Star Belgrade Under-15 club.

His playing career began in 1995 and lasted 16 seasons with clubs in Serbia, Hungary, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

In New England, he replaces Caleb Porter, who was dismissed in September, and interim head coach Pablo Moreira. New England finished 11th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 9-16-9 (36 points).
