Nashville SC pick up MF Tyler Boyd from Galaxy

Nashville SC acquired midfielder Tyler Boyd from the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday and then signed him to multiyear deal through 2026 with an option for 2027.

The Galaxy will receive two international roster spots and $150,000 in general allocation money (GAM) from Nashville. The GAM will be split equally over the next two seasons. Conditional GAM of $625,000 is part of the deal should Boyd meet specified performance metrics.

Boyd, 29, tied for the Galaxy lead with seven MLS goals last season. He also had four assists while playing in all 34 games.

“Tyler is an outstanding attacking player who has proven the ability to create and finish scoring chances in MLS, abroad and with the U.S. men’s national team,” Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs said in a press release. “He is a great fit on and off the field, and we are excited to add him to our group.”

Boyd had a base salary of $275,000 last season, his first with Los Angeles.

“As we continue to improve our roster, with the aim of maintaining roster flexibility, Nashville offered us a deal that accomplishes both of those goals,” Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said in a statement. “We wish Tyler and his family the best as he embarks on a new and exciting chapter in his career.”

Boyd was born in New Zealand and has dual citizenship, which allowed him to join the U.S. national team in 2019. He had two goals in 10 international appearances.

Boyd spent 12 seasons playing for overseas clubs, including stints in New Zealand, Portugal and Turkey, before joining the Galaxy.
