Matt Freese made two saves and New York City FC withstood 13 shot attempts from visiting Nashville SC on Friday night in a 0-0 draw.

Despite going the entire second half without a shot attempt, New York City (7-8-8, 29 points) snapped Nashville’s four-game winning streak. NYCFC, which only had one shot on target, earned a draw for the third straight game.

Nashville (16-2-5, 53 points) extended its unbeaten streak to six (4-0-2). Sitting atop the league standings, Nashville went without a goal for the fifth time this season.

The game’s first attempt came nine minutes in, as Sam Surridge’s header went over the goal. NYCFC answered a minute later with a pair of shots from Nicolas Fernandez and Benie Traore, but both were blocked by Nashville.

In the first half, Agustin Ojeda had New York’s best shot in the 15th minute but goalkeeper Brian Schwake made the stop, while Freese saved Elias Saad’s attempt in the 21st.

In the first four minutes of the second half, Surridge had two good looks but was turned away both times. In the 62nd minute, Surridge again tried a header to no avail.

Hany Mukhtar’s shot from the right of the box was blocked by Andres Perea in the 79th, then Abdul Shakur Mohammed’s attempt was blocked by Raul Gustavo three minutes later.

Another Mukhtar shot was blocked in the 84th minute.

Schwake had one save for Nashville, which held possession for nearly 55% of the match.
